Have you ever wondered what the different terms for the surfaces of resin coated (RC) photo papers mean?
Well, I was looking for a definition of the term “Satin” when I came across an interesting discussion on the Luminous Landscape forum.
In general Luster and Pearl are about the same as well as Satin and Semi-gloss. The surface of Luster has more tooth (or roughness) than Satin.
Furthermore, you will find RC papers with Glossy and High-Glossy surfaces. These papers tend to show crisper and more contrasty results.
Some might like this look and feel; I prefer either fine-art papers or whenever I take an RC paper Luster or Satin for most of my work.
